Acclaimed theatre director and university professor Jose Estrella helms the highly-anticipated play based on the life of Nana Rosa, the “first Filipino to publicly come out as a comfort woman.” Written by award-winning playwright Rody Vera and staged by the UP Playwrights’ Theatre Company, the production highlights the courage of Maria Rosa Henson as she recounts her harrowing experience as a sex slave of the Japanese military during World War II. The play depicts the power of the human spirit for survival amidst the hopelessness of extreme struggle with the inspiring performances of thespians Bibeth Orteza and Peewee O’Hara alternating in the role.
