Bundith Phunsombatlert's (ACC 2007) Mapping Fragments: History of Blue and White Porcelain uses a new style of ceramic that weaves a media art technique of blue and white porcelain with the history of immigration, tracing their personal paths and stories that have been hidden. Phunsombatlert overlaps the porcelain pieces, referencing U.S. Museum collections, and digitally transfers images of plants that were brough to the U.S. through the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
Along with this exhibit, Phunsombatlert also showcases another exhibit, Sunny Garden in Blue: Stories from the Caribbean to Brooklyn which involves a workshop inviting senior Brownsville residents to create personal gardens. These two exhibits work closely in gathering first-hand experiences of immigrants and the meaning of plants. Phunsombatlert is able to decolonize traditional archives and reveal personal histories that often are omitted in other widely-known narratives.
This exhibit is free to join and is located at Brooklyn Public Libray's Central Library Branch.
