The Asian Cultural Council (ACC) is pleased to announce Judy Kim as its Executive Director, effective July 6, 2021.

Kim brings to ACC over 25 years of dedication to arts and cultural institutions and a first-hand knowledge of the profound impact of cultural exchange. Kim’s proven record of strategic leadership and execution, as well as her commitment to organizational development, has allowed her to usher several institutions into their next phase of growth.

“Judy is an experienced and astute leader who places transparency and trust at the fore,” says Wendy O’Neill, Chairman of ACC’s Board of Trustees. “In an era of increased tension between the U.S. and Asia and a rise in anti-Asian hate, ACC remains committed to our belief in the power of the arts and culture to bridge divides. As ACC enters its 60th anniversary, we are confident in Judy’s leadership to guide ACC through this moment and beyond.”

As an ACC alumna, Kim has a deep personal understanding of ACC’s mission. In 1998, she received an ACC Fellowship to research at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea. The ability to work across a global arts community is one of the reasons that drew her to ACC.

“I am honored to have been selected to lead ACC, especially at a moment when its mission is more relevant than ever. I look forward to working with ACC’s board, staff, supporters, and alumni family to further generate and foster meaningful connections between the U.S. and Asia and within Asia through transformative cultural exchange,” said Kim.

Originally from New York City, Kim studied Art History at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and earned her master’s degree at the Center for Curatorial Studies in Contemporary Art and Culture at Bard College.

Kim has held curatorial and leadership positions at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, the American Federation of the Arts, and at the Brooklyn Museum where she served as Head of Exhibitions Division. Over the next decade, she held director positions at two of the nation’s leading institutions, serving as Director of Affiliates and Director of Abu Dhabi Project Operations at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and as Deputy Director at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.
