Over the past few months, we have witnessed an escalation of attacks against those of Asian descent in America. We are viscerally distressed as we listen to our family, our colleagues, our artistic communities, and our friends convey their intense pain and fear.

These stories of racially motivated attacks and terrorist shootings remind us that even as vaccines are being distributed and as the world eventually returns to a new version of “normal”—it is imperative that we recognize freedom of movement does not erase the barriers instilled by racism, sexism, prejudice, bias, and fear.

As we commit to center those in pain, we fully acknowledge condolences are not enough. We cannot change the world if we do not change ourselves. There is much work we as an organization and as individuals still need to do.

In our daily lives and as an organization, we must ask and ask again: what are we doing to uphold the mission we believe in?
