Selected from approximately 400 applicants, the individuals and organizational project participants are artists, scholars, and arts specialists pursuing study or research abroad. They hail from Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Taiwan, and the United States. Twenty-nine grants are for Asia-to-U.S. travel; twelve are for U.S.-to-Asia travel; two involve travel both within Asia and between Asia and the U.S.; and two are for intra-Asia travel. Support for 3 of the American artists traveling to Asia was made possible by a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Grant recipients include an emerging curator from Cambodia entering the M.A. program in Asian Art History at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore; a dancer/filmmaker from the Philippines who will connect with interdisciplinary artists in the U.S. to explore the growing field of dance on film; a U.S.-based composer/percussionist who will travel to India to collaborate with a glaciologist/geomorphologist and record a climate soundscape of the Ganges River.
“Programmatic diversity is an important and deliberate aspect of our program, amplifying our impact and fostering multilateral and interdisciplinary relationships,” said ACC executive director Miho Walsh. “These new ACC grant recipients have such potential for meaningful engagement, and the sustained connections that can bring about international understanding in order to create a more peaceful world.”
